Introduction

This section helps you turn your reflections into action. Using the insights gathered from the personas, attributes, capability matrices and maturity matrices, you can identify your strengths, prioritise areas for development and set goals for the future.

Reflection Questions: Personal Development

The template for a personal development plan can be found in part 3.1 of the PEP capabilities framework downloadable document.

Before starting your plan, consider:

  • Which capabilities have the greatest impact on your work?
  • Which capability areas show the largest gap between your current and aspirational levels?
  • Are there any personas you would like to develop into more fully?
  • Which attributes would strengthen your practice if developed further?
  • What opportunities already exist within your role to gain experience and build confidence?
  • What practical steps could help you strengthen your areas for growth?

    Examples might include:

    • Training or professional development.
    • Shadowing colleagues.
    • Mentoring or coaching.
    • Stretch projects.
    • Communities of practice.
    • Networking and peer learning.
    • Reading and self-directed learning.

Reflection Questions: Team Development

The template for a team development plan can be found in the workbook part 3.1.

Before starting your plan, consider:

  • Which capabilities are strongest across the team?
  • Are there areas where capability sits with only one individual and therefore presents a risk?
  • Which personas are well represented, and which are missing?
  • What capabilities will be needed to deliver future priorities?
  • Are there opportunities to develop existing staff rather than recruit new expertise?
  • What organisational barriers are limiting capability development?
