Seminar Series
This year, we are running a four-part online seminar series, Public Engagement for Public Good, which explores how protecting and strengthening public engagement infrastructure helps research and development deliver public value.
Seminars will run from November 2026 – July 2027.
Public Engagement for Public Good
How can we ensure that research and innovation deliver lasting public value?
Public engagement makes research matter. It builds trust and strengthens research through diverse knowledge. It creates value for people, planet and place, and supports more inclusive outcomes. But lasting impact needs more than individual commitment, it depends on the structures, resources, relationships and leadership that make engagement part of how research is done.
Join the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) for our four-part seminar series Public Engagement for Public Good. Together we will explore how the right infrastructure, investment, culture and policy can enable effective public engagement and help research and innovation make a difference to people and places.
Drawing on the NCCPE’s State of the Sector recommendations and its Engaged Futures vision, the series will bring together perspectives from across higher education, research, funding, policy and communities. Through real-world examples and discussion, we’ll explore what effective public engagement looks like, what makes it possible, the difference it can make, and what is needed to sustain it.
What will the series explore?
Across four online events, we’ll examine the role of different parts of the research and higher education system in making public engagement an integral and sustainable part of their work.
Each seminar will bring recommendations to life through practical examples and case studies, exploring the conditions that makes successful engagement possible, the difference it makes, and the lessons others can take forward.
Whether you influence research policy, make funding decisions, lead an institution, undertake research or work alongside communities, these seminars offer an opportunity to explore what enables public engagement to deliver lasting value.
