Training for Evaluating Public Engagement

This interactive training course will explore how to develop strategic evaluation plans, the different techniques you can use, and what your findings can tell you and your organisation or funder. With an emphasis on how to conduct evaluation, join us for a programme of practical activities and discussion to demystify evaluation.

Course Details

Fees: 
£1600 for online / £POA for in-person delivery

This course is aimed at:
 

  • Those who are embarking on or who are already working within engaged research projects and programmes. It assumes little to no experience of evaluating public engagement activities.
     
  • Academics and researchers at all levels with an interest in developing their engagement practice especially with communities (including Early Career Researchers and PhD Students)
     
  • Professional Services staff in roles which support engaged researchers (including those with roles in Knowledge Exchange and Impact as well as other Public Engagement Professional roles)
     
  • Groups of 10-20 people from the same organisation. Unfortunately, we cannot offer individual places on this course

  • Understand the value and uses of evaluation in public engagement, for example to improve practice; to share learning and to report impact
     
  • Gain familiarity with the evaluation process, understand what activities can be used for evaluation and the importance of advance planning for evaluation

Session Format

Our sessions aim to be participatory and we invite everyone to join in whatever way feels comfortable, so that they can share in the discussions and gain the most from the experience.

Both in-person and online sessions last 2.5 hours (including a breaks of 10 minutes), and involve a blend of presented material covering the WHY, WHAT, HOW and WHEN of evaluation alongside case studies, discussion and reflection on current practice and challenges as well as consideration of tools and templates to shape evaluation. 

In-Person Training

If you prefer your training to be delivered face-to-face, we allocate a tutor from our team of experienced practitioners to travel to your premises. On receipt of your booking form, we will send you a quote for delivery within 5 working days, based on the information you have provided.

You can book single or multiple courses and we will aim to schedule the delivery of these in as cost effective and efficient way as we can. We cannot guarantee to deliver two or more courses on a single day.

Online Training

You may find it easier for those with a busy schedule to book training delivered online. 

We use Zoom to deliver these sessions and a variety of digital tools such as break-out rooms, whiteboards and Padlets to ensure the session is interactive and engaging. 

All of our materials are accessible and we encourage our participants to communicate any access requirements to ensure that their training experience is as inclusive as possible.

Useful Information

Allocating Your Tutor

All our Tutors have extensive training and practitioner experience in public engagement and we will match you to the training associate we think is right for you and your organisation, while taking into account location and availability. 

Accessibility

For online sessions hosted on Zoom: 

  • The event may be recorded for training development purposes
  • Presenters will be using a live camera and audio and will show slides
  • Delegates will also be expected to share their camera and contribute to discussions
  • Some of the interactions will take place using a chat function or a digital whiteboard such as Padlet where people can type their responses
  • Delegates with specific needs are welcome to bring a personal assistant
  • We ensure that there is at least one scheduled 10-minute comfort/screen break in every session
  • The training materials we share are optimised for screen-reading software
  • We encourage participants to let us know in advance of any access requirements to allow us to make reasonable adjustments 

For in-person sessions hosted on location at your organisation:

  • We recommend that there is a quiet space available for delegates to access throughout the event and that any other necessary steps are taken to ensure inclusion for participants
  • Training sessions will take place both in plenary and in small discussion groups
  • Delegates will have the option to take some time for reflection instead of joining small group discussions if they prefer
  • We ensure that there is at least one scheduled 10-minute comfort break during the session 

Fees and Payment

  • Training sessions costs £1600. However, for in-person training, in addition to the cost of the course delivery, we will quote you for trainer travel, as well as travel time and accommodation where necessary. You will be sent a quote within 5 working days based on the training associates we have available and the information you provide in your booking form
  • Invoicing: we do charge a £100 surcharge for processing invoices to contribute towards the costs of the additional administration required. Please ensure you provide accurate invoicing information so that we can set up your organisation as a customer and issue an invoice without delay
  • If you choose to pay by card or PayPal, the payment link will be sent via email in your booking reservation confirmation
  • Please check with the card holder whether there is any payment limit which restricts the amount you can spend at any one time. We have a payment option which will allow you to pay over multiple transactions

Before You Book

Please ensure you know the following information: 

  • The date range during which you’d like training to be delivered and any dates which aren’t possible
  • How many people you are expecting to attend (please note, the minimum number of attendees is 10 per course)
  • How will you be paying for the course fees? If you are paying by invoice, please be aware that invoicing incurs a £100 admin surcharge. We will need accurate invoicing information (inc. contact name, address, phone number and email). If paying by card, find out whether your purchasing card has a payment limit (please check with the person who is able to make payment)
  • For in-person delivery, the address where the training will be held (you can arrange a space for delivery once payment is complete and the date has been confirmed)
