Infolab21, Rooms C60b/c, Lancaster University
The UK Community Partner Network (UKCPN) is running an exciting regional event at Lancaster University. The event is especially for community members who are interested in doing partnership work with universities but have limited or no experience in this field. It will cover how to shape and target your request, and how to make contact with academics and universities. There are also a few places for academics keen to support this work. It offers:
- Rare and dedicated time for community partners to meet each other
- A chance to consider whether a university is the right partner for your needs, and if so how to frame that request
- An opportunity to build on your understanding of the local university context and consider what drives academics and universities to form partnerships
This is a free event and lunch will be provided. There will also be the opportunity to meet with some Lancaster University academics over coffee at the end of the day. You can register for this event using the button above.
10.00 – 10.15 Registration and Coffee
10.15 – 12.00 Laying out your Stall: Preparing your request before seeking help from your university
Before you start to connect, you need to have spent some time thinking about your offer so that you end up speaking to the right people. This session will help you to learn from other community partners in the area working with or keen to work with universities; think about whether the university is the right partner; consider how to pitch your request; and learn about the UKCPN, its vision and how to get involved.
12.00 – 12.45 Networking Lunch
Rare and dedicated time for community partners in your area to meet up - a relaxed space to share and reflect on your own experiences, ponder the ingredients for a good lunch and good community university partnerships, and follow up on the interesting links you made during the morning.
12.45 – 14.30 Connecting: The who, what, why and how of making contact with academics and universities
This will help you discover more about how others have made contact with their local university; as well as build on your understanding of the university context and the pressures and drivers that inform their work with communities.
14.30 – 15.00 Close, coffee and chat
