The NCCPE and BIG (the UK’s STEM Communicators Network) play different roles in the public engagement and science communication sector, however both organisations are involved with devising and delivering training.
Due to this common interest, we thought it would be useful to have a chat about training. We were also aware of Clio Hislop’s recent work looking at science communication training in the USA and heard that there is a network for trainers in the USA. We were wondering if there could be merit in a UK network. What would be the opportunities and tensions of such a network? How can we ensure it's inclusive?
Therefore we have come together with BIG to host an event for those who devise and deliver training for science communication and public engagement. The event will be an opportunity to meet others with shared interests, reflect on the training we are offering, share insights, and learn together. Our hunch is that this will be useful to all involved, and there will be an opportunity to explore whether there is appetite for creating a training network.
Date: 7 October 2021
Time: 12.00noon pre-meet, bring your lunch. Event runs from 12.30 to 15:00
The event will also offer an opportunity for you to share examples of your training work in a live postcard swap shop session, where you have one slide and three minutes to describe your example. We may not have opportunity to discuss all the examples, but will showcase all the postcards at the event.
Bookings have now closed for this event. If you want to keep in touch about this event, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, marking the subject Science Communication and Public Engagement Training Network. Thank you.
