Over the last year we have been experimenting with the Engaged Practice Learning Exchange, or EPLE for short. Lots of people have asked us to provide a space to step back and take time to discuss their work, to explore the intersection of theory and practice, and to stimulate innovation and fresh thinking. They want longer, more open- ended spaces for these conversations to grow and for networks of shared interest to build.
So that’s exactly what we are offering on the 2nd December in Bristol, the day before the Engage conference. The event is scheduled to run from 11am to 5.45pm followed by an opportunity to join a social evening at a local restaurant. It would be great to welcome people interested in getting involved in this new network. If you have any questions or suggestions please do contact sophie.duncan@uwe.ac.uk.
We’ve developed this provisional programme for the EPLE, and will finalise this in October. You can find more information on each session by clicking on the tab. Do let us know what you think – and if you think anything is missing.
- Opening plenary: Welcome and setting the scene 11.00 -11.45
-
This session will introduce the EPLE as a focal point for sharing engaged practice from across different disciplinary and practice traditions.
- Storytelling 12.00 - 13.15
-
Delegates will have been invited to bring a story to share in this session. The story will be from their experiences of engaged practice and should include something that they would like to pass on to others, and something they would like to learn.
- From the coal face 14.30 - 15.45
-
This session will use creative techniques to stimulate discussion about the things that we really struggle with at the coal face. Delegates will have the opportunity to share their biggest challenge, and to have feedback from a range of people at the workshop.
- A new journal for engaged research 16.15 - 17.30
- The session will examine the launch of ‘Research for All’, and invite delegates to help shape the journal as it develops. A partnership between the Institute of Education and the NCCPE, and launching in 2015, this journal is for anyone, working inside or outside universities, who is committed to seeing research make a difference in society. We want the journal to find effective ways to bridge the gap between theory and practice in new and innovative ways – and would really love your help in doing this.
