Digital storytelling for public engagement

'Digital Storytelling' refers to a combination of approaches and technologies that help people with little or no professional experience of digital media to produce short, narrative-based videos. Despite the simplicity of the approach, these stories can be highly engaging and often emotionally powerful. Stories are a great way of making complicated ideas meaningful to a wide audience. This means the technique is highly effective as a tool for public engagement.

In this highly participative workshop, attendees will work in small groups to write and refine ideas for stories they could tell about their organisations' work or their own personal experiences. The day will include demonstrations of the different tools required for producing digital stories and guidance on using social media to improve the potential for sharing and discoverability. Attendees will also have access to supplementary learning materials and support on using technology to tell their stories.
