Engaged Futures is an initiative to collectively imagine the engaged futures for the higher education sector in the UK and identify concerted actions that can lead us there.

We are seeking 'Engaged Futures Catalysts’ to join in this change-making endeavour.

UK higher education is in a period of change, but what will that change look like?

Engaged Futures aims to align and embolden a network of like-minded people willing to work towards a more open, collaborative and publicly engaged higher education system. But we cannot do this alone.

Since its inception, Engaged Futures has consulted with over 600 individuals with a vested interest in the future of our UK higher education system. Collectively we have built a vision for how things might be; the people and communities it connects with; its response to shifts in wider society and he ways universities organise themselves.

We now want to mobilise this vision by building and aligning some of the great change-making work that already exists in the system. And, we need all hands on deck! Join us in this effort by signing up as an Engaged Futures Catalyst.

What is an ‘Engaged Futures Catalyst’?

We want to work with people who are committed to enacting change.

There will be lots of ways to be involved as outlined below. We want to be as flexible as possible, to suit your preferences and availability. All we will ask of our Catalyst Group members is that you commit to learning alongside other participants, sharing your insights and expertise, and taking relevant actions in your own area of work.

Who can be an ‘Engaged Futures Catalyst’?

If you have an interest in the future of the higher education sector and how universities engage with society then we are keen to work with you. The group is diverse: you may work within a university, you may work with young people interested in their next steps or you may be involved in an interest group or community organisation that works with or alongside a university in some way, etc.

What is the commitment?

Once you have joined the Catalyst network, we’ll keep in touch to let you know about opportunities to get actively involved. These could include: testing resources to support action, contributing to consultation events, and curating material for your peers.

You get to choose what to get involved in and to what depth. Most of the work will take place online, and should only incur the cost of your time. Depending on the commitments you take on, there will be the possibility of applying for a bursary to support participation, e.g. to cover caring costs or travel.

We value and encourage representation of anyone interested in this work. Read our inclusion statement below:
