As part of NCCPE's inclusion work, we are commissioning a resource to support public engagement professionals in practising racially equitable public engagement.

We want future users’ voices to help shape the resource, so please express your interest in joining the process as soon as possible. Vanessa Mignan Jenkins and Siddharth Kankaria lead the co-development process, and both have extensive experience supporting public engagement teams in implementing equitable engagement practices and participatory processes. Register your interest now to help shape the resource.

Your Contribution

Your participation will help shape a resource grounded in diverse perspectives, experiences and expertise from across the public engagement sector.

As contributors, you will help to;

  • identify priority topics

  • share examples, case studies and questions from your own work

  • review draft materials at key milestones

Get involved

There will be multiple ways to participate, including;

  • one-on-one conversations in July and early August (approximately 45 to 60 minutes - we will arrange a time and date with you)

  • feedback sessions on draft materials planned for October (about 60 to 90 minutes per session)

  • participatory workshop reviews in November (about 60 to 90 minutes per session).

Each stage offers a focused chance to shape the resource at key points. If you decide to participate in every stage, it will take you 3 to 5 hours between July and November 2026.

If you are interested in joining a one-on-one conversation, please register as soon as possible, as slots will be scheduled on a rolling basis.

The expression-of-interest form for the other activities will remain open until October, and you are welcome to join at any stage. However we will be selecting those to participate specifically in the one-on-one conversations on Friday 17 July, so please register your interest in participating in that element of the consultation by 12pm Friday 17 July 2026 to secure your place.

Recognition

All contributors will be equally credited and acknowledged, according to your preference, as this is a co-developed resource.

If you would like to participate but there are barriers preventing you, such as caring responsibilities, employment status (i.e. part time, freelance, maternity), or your employer is not able to support your involvement as part of your role, we can provide financial assistance in the form of a one-off honorarium. It is important to note that the honorarium is not a direct payment for your time and that you are responsible for declaring it for tax purposes. We can offer the honorarium in the form of a bank transfer or a LoveToShop voucher.

Who can apply?

We welcome expressions of interest from PEPs with varied backgrounds and experiences, and encourage you to share this invitation with colleagues who may be interested. Please apply now using the form and indicate your interest in joining the process.

While we aim to include as many interested participants as possible, space may be limited due to capacity constraints and to ensure a diverse range of perspectives. If the number of expressions of interest exceeds available spaces, we may need to select participants to achieve a balanced group. In selecting participants, we will consider factors such as relevant experience in public engagement, a mix of institutional and community perspectives, representation from different sectors or disciplines, and diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences. We will confirm your participation after reviewing all submissions and will provide updates to all applicants.

If you have any questions or require accommodations, please contact Alison Wright (Alison4.Wright@uwe.ac.uk).

One-on-one conversations

Your input will help determine priority topics, challenges, practical tools and potential case studies to include. Your contribution will be recognised and credited in accordance with your preference. You will reflect on challenges or effective practices related to anti-racism in public engagement and, if possible, bring specific examples or questions to share.

We will consider:

  • What barriers have you encountered in advancing racial equity in public engagement, whether personal, institutional, or systemic?
  • What practices, initiatives or tools have helped support racially equitable engagement in your work or institution?
  • What would you want prioritised first in a racial equity resource for PEPs?

We are pleased to offer an honorarium as recognition for your time and expertise. Your contribution will be recognised and credited according to your preference. This is also a chance to help shape a resource that reflects lived experience and practical insight. Further details about each stage and how you can contribute will be shared with interested participants.

Please express your interest in the One-on-one conversations by 12pm Friday 17 July 2026, or as soon as possible. Register now to ensure your interest is received on time.

You can still be involved in the other activities if you miss this deadline, as the expression of interest will be open until October.
