Take Part in our Consultation Workshop to help build a Resource for Racially Equitable Public Engagement
As part of the NCCPE's inclusion work, we are commissioning a resource, to support public engagement professionals to practice racially equitable public engagement.
We would like to bring the voices of those who will be using the resource into its development, and so invite you to join a one-hour consultation workshop on 16 July from 13:00 - 14:00.
This workshop will contribute in part to the co-development of an NCCPE resource for racially equitable public engagement, led by Vanessa Mignan Jenkins and Siddharth Kankaria.
Please register by 17:00 on Monday 13 July to confirm your participation and help shape the resource’s focus. Your input will help determine priority topics, challenges, practical tools and potential case studies to include. Your contribution will be recognised and credited in accordance with your preference. Following the workshop, we will share a summary of key insights with participants.
Workshop details:
- Date: Thursday 16 July
- Time: 13:00 - 14:00
- Location: Zoom
To ensure a productive workshop, we will ask participants to reflect on challenges or effective practices related to anti-racism in public engagement and, if possible, bring specific examples or questions to share.
We will consider:
What barriers have you encountered in advancing racial equity in public engagement?
What practices, initiatives or tools have helped support racially equitable engagement in your work or institution?
To ensure all voices are heard and included during the workshop, we will use breakout rooms for small group discussions and offer options for anonymous input.
Our goal is to create a welcoming and supportive space. Please familiarise yourself with our Accessible and Inclusive practice guidelines that will be applied during our session before joining. We will also send a consent form, further details about the session and the joining instructions by Tuesday 14 July.
We apologise for the short notice; unforeseen delays meant we were unable to schedule this workshop earlier.
However, there will be additional opportunities to contribute in different formats over the coming months. If you are unable to attend the workshop, you will have the opportunity to provide input via the online questionnaire available at the end of the month.
Key engagement milestones are as follows:
- The online questionnaire will open at the end of July
- Feedback sessions on draft materials are planned for October
- Participatory reviews will take place in November, as the resource continues to develop
At each stage, you will be able to review drafts and provide feedback to directly help shape the final resource.
We look forward to your contribution.
