Why we've signed the Manifesto

"Aston University is very focussed on carrying out research and teaching and providing a broad student experience that develops employable graduates and exploitable research. A strong engagement with the public and businesses is vital if we are to carry out activities that attract students and delivers useful research."

Dr Philip Extance, Pro Vice Chancellor

Our approach to public engagement

Aston University campusAt Aston we are constantly developing new and exciting ways of sharing our knowledge, research and skills with the wider public to forge mutually beneficial partnerships. We recognise the valuable role that Universities must play in engaging with communities locally, nationally and internationally.

We have been well known for deep engagement with industry throughout our history. We work with our local businesses to share knowledge through recognised programmes such as KTP’s and CASE Awards. We also contribute to companies through our student placement scheme through which around 70% of our students spend a year of their degree in the workplace.

Aston is fully committed to engaging with and playing a leading role in important local and regional activities and to driving regeneration for Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Aston University hosted the 2010 British Science Festival.
