University of Kent

Why we have signed the manifesto

"The University of Kent has a well-established tradition of public engagement with research and recognises the need to formalise its approach and support to ensure the embedding of a culture of engagement across the University.’ Public Engagement with Research Strategy 2016

Our approach to engagement is a significant component of our University Plan and is central to the way we see our position regionally, nationally and globally. We understand that high quality engagement benefits both our partners and ourselves: as individual researchers, as an institution, and as members of an international community."

Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow, Vice Chancellor

Our approach to public engagement

At Kent, we are committed to ‘Contributing to the broader educational, employment, social and cultural objectives of our communities and our region.’ University Plan 2015-2020

Through the continued development of our Kent Public Engagement with Research Network, we will work to realise the key aims of our Public Engagement with Research Strategy to:

  • inspire and equip our staff and students to deliver high quality, innovative and effective engagement activities leading to evidenced impact outside of academia

  • promote and develop working in partnerships both internally and externally

  • foster a wider understanding of Higher Education among the public

  • ensure that the inclusive and diverse ethos of the University is reflected in our engagement practice
