The University of Cambridge will develop a strategic project to develop excellence in public engagement with research, and recognise the research staff and students involved. Our project will also gather information on existing public engagement activity and its potential for further contribution to the achievement of research impact. We will establish a new advisory committee, to be chaired by the PVC for Research, with senior academic representation from the University’s six Schools. We will develop an awards process to recognise achievement in public engagement at all levels. A project coordinator will support the existing Public Engagement team, University leaders, researchers and public engagement practitioners in developing strategies and practices which promote and evaluate public engagement with research. We will receive consultancy input from the Open University.
