The NCCPE and a Peer Research Team are conducting research to explore the impact of COVID-19 on Public Engagement Professionals (PEPs) and the engagement work of Universities.
For this research we are focusing on Public Engagement Professionals who:
● Work to support or coordinate public engagement within Universities/Higher Education Institutions or Research Institutes (whether formally part of their job description or not)
● Work with Universities/Higher Education (HE) Institutions, Research Institutes, or funders to coordinate or support public engagement.
We would be grateful if you would complete the following survey to share your thoughts on how COVID-19 has affected your work and the work of your organisation. You will have the option to answer anonymously, if you wish. The closing date for responses is 20th January 2021.
The survey will take around 15-30 minutes to complete (or longer if you choose to provide more detailed feedback). You will need to complete the survey in one go as you are unable to save your answers before they are submitted, therefore you may wish to make a note of your answers in a word document before completing the survey. You can read the full list of questions in advance, although you may not be asked all of the questions when taking the survey.
The results of this survey will be analysed and considered alongside evidence from interviews and focus groups. The results will be shared with funders, PEPs and the NCCPE to inform future decision making, to build effective support for PEPs, to raise awareness of specific issues relating to public engagement in HE and research, to support culture change and to ‘negotiate the future together’.
Full background details can be found in the Participant Information Sheet for Survey Respondents. You need to read this before proceeding with completing our survey.
Please note, questions marked with a red asterisk are compulsory, all other questions are optional. You can only move to the next page of the survey when you have completed the compulsory questions.
Impact of COVID-19 on professional practice
In this section, we are trying to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected your PEP practice. For the purposes of this survey, we are considering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic since the UK national lockdown which dates from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Statement on Coronavirus (23 March 2020). Areas covered in this section include your employment conditions (a); the focus of your role (b); and your institution's commitment to public engagement (PE) (c).
If you have multiple roles, or multiple employers, please answer these questions in relation to your main PEP role: the PE post in which you are employed for the highest proportion of your working week.
Section a): Your employment conditions before and after the UK national lockdown, which started in March 2020
