Ethics in CBPR

People discussing

How do we consider the ethics of community based participatory research? Who owns the information? Are we being fair? Is this an equal partnership?

Questions like this often come up when doing research. This is especially true when community organisations and universities work together. These are ethical questions about doing good and harm; how people are treated; and who benefits from research.

The Tackling Ethical Issues project, coordinated by Durham University’s Centre for Social Justice and Community Action involved UK community organisations and universities working together to produce an ethical guide, case examples, short films, podcasts and resources to help researchers with ethical challenges. The work was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Connected Communities programme.
