Job: Science communications officer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and self-motivated science communications specialist to support the ongoing development of Oxford Sparks, our public engagement portal, and the related training and networking across Oxford University.

The Science Communications Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the portal, including management of the social media feeds, blogging site, and the podcast series which is due to launch in the forthcoming term. The postholder will also project manage the development of the Sparks animations/short films and the ongoing development, delivery and evaluation of the programme of public engagement training activities. This will be a priority area of work in the first instance as we scale our provision and develop new courses.

The ideal candidate will have: a scientific background; excellent training skills; strong organisation and communication skills; be able to manage relationships with academics and other professionals; and be effective in writing and editing for the web. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The role requires a good attention to detail and ability to work autonomously to tight deadlines.
