Do you know of an exciting and inspiring location where we can host our annual Engage conference in 2018?
We are looking for universities, institutions or cities who will work with us to create a different kind of conference.
Engage is about stimulating new connections; improving practice; sparking new thinking; and inspiring innovation. It is the highlight of the NCCPE calendar and aims to be challenging, provoking, and energising. Attracting delegates from around the world, including researchers, public engagement professionals, leaders, policy makers, funders, and community organisations, charities, NGOs, cultural organisations and others, the conference provides a great opportunity to cultivate high quality engagement cultures and practice.
Traditionally Engage has been in Bristol, where the NCCPE is based, but in 2018 we want to take Engage on the road, to bring together new people, ideas and collaborations and to shake up our conference format. We are interested in experimenting with new ways to create wonderful conference experiences.
We’re looking for a team we can work with to curate, organise and deliver an Engage conference with a difference. Connected to its location and speaking to a broader theme, we are keen to create a space where a wide variety of delegates from different subject and sector areas can get together and have purposeful interactions. Each year we choose a relevant theme for the conference. This year we focus on collaboration, and we are currently considering next years’ theme – so do share any ideas you have.
Our current format caters for up to 265 people with six larger (catering for 50 people cabaret) and two smaller breakout spaces, therefore our minimum requirements would be:
- A venue that can host between 260-350 delegates including:
- Plenty of natural light
- A space where all delegates can be accommodated for plenary sessions (ideally in cabaret)
- Enough break-out spaces to host delegates in at least six concurrent workshop sessions
- Spaces around the conference venue where delegates can network and continue the conversation
- Lunch space to accommodate all delegates, preferably in one sitting
- A place where delegates can store their luggage
- Good transport connections across the UK
- Local accommodation options at a variety of price points
Whilst these are our minimum requirements, we’re keen to explore other ways of running the conference, so if you have a venue that can take more people, or has larger numbers of breakout spaces; if your city has multiple venues that could play host to a distributed conference; or, if you would be interested in hosting one of a number of smaller, live-linked conferences across the UK we’d love to hear from you. Engage usually takes place in late November/early December but we will also consider applications for other dates, if these dates are problematic.
If you have always longed to develop a brilliant conference, offering opportunities for delegates to reflect; debate; challenge, plan, participate and change, then this is a great opportunity to get involved.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 30th November, but no formal commitment is required at this stage. At the end of November we will review each application and contact the applicants to talk through options and possible involvement. At this stage we can provide you with more information about how Engage has been run in the past and answer any questions you may have. After this stage, we’ll ask applicants to submit a more detailed application.
So if you want to work with us and you think your city or institution could host Engage, or if you want more information, fill out the form below and one of the NCCPE team will be in touch.
