Booking form: Developing school-university partnerships - pitfalls and possibilities

This one day course delivered by Ellie Cripps (University of Bristol) and Kirsty Ross (University of Strathclyde), supports participants to develop school-university partnerships that inspire students by bringing cutting edge research into the classroom. Using the NCCPE’s Perspective on Partnerships tool we will explore the perspectives of all those involved in partnership – researchers, brokers, teachers and school students. Drawing on learning and experience from the School University Partnership Initiative (SUPI), we will foster new understandings of how to define the scope of new projects, ensure clarity and avoid unmet expectations, as well as renewing and rejuvenating existing partnerships.

All participants will receive a free copy of the NCCPE's Perspectives on Partnership PoP tool

The course covers:

  • Why develop school university partnerships (considering institutional and personal motivations)
  • Case studies of successful partnerships
  • Practical advice for school-university partnerships
  • Common challenges and practical solutions

Aim: To inspire participants about the possibility of partnerships by providing examples to learn from, the opportunity to share ideas with colleagues and practical advice to develop and maintain them.

Target Participants:

  • Public engagement, outreach and widening participation professionals in universities, whose role it is to support researchers working with schools
  • School leads/teachers wanting to develop a partnership with a university

Participants would gain an understanding of:

  • The need to consider 4 perspectives in developing school-university partnerships and how these might differ including key insights into the needs and interests of the partners
  • The range of opportunities for partnerships, ranging from spontaneous to long term
  • Practical approaches to school-university partnerships development and tools to support this
  • Activities to support partnerships
  • Benefits and challenges in SUPs
