Funding Opportunities

There are lots of pots of funding that you could access to help support your public engagement activity. Here are some of the funds that we know about. Do let us know if there are other opportunities that you know of. We have organised these opportunities by subject area.

Arts and Humanities

Scottish Arts Council - Organisational and Audience Development 

Financial support is available towards the cost of a range of activity aimed at improving an organisation's ability to meet its objectives in one of 3 key areas that includes public engagement.  Level of grants: £5,000 - £30,000. Organisations based outside Scotland can apply, as long as the project is for the benefit of audiences and participants in Scotland. Deadline: 5 October 2009

Wellcome Trust Public Engagement Awards in the History of Medicine

Over £30,000. Open to a range of individuals and organisations that includes commercial companies so that  history of medicine can reach wider audiences such as schools, the public and the media either by promoting historical research/medicine or to increase contributions of general history coverage via various methods. Deadlines: Full applications can be submitted three times per year on 1 March, 1 August and 1 December. Preliminary applications should be submitted at least 6 weeks before the full application deadline. Next preliminary deadline: 20 October 2009.

Arts Council England - Grants for the arts - individuals and organisations

Grants for the arts are for individuals, arts organisations and other people who use the arts in their work. They are for activities carried out over a set period and which engage people in England in arts activities, and help artists and arts organisations in England carry out their work. Grants for the arts is funded by the National Lottery. Deadline: continuous

Wellcome Trust - Arts Awards

Arts Awards support imaginative and experimental arts projects that investigate biomedical science. All art forms are covered by the programme: dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media. The Trust invites applications for projects which engage adult audiences and/or young people. Deadlines: For small-medium sized projects (up to £30,000) upcoming deadlines are 23 October 2009 and 29 January 2010. Decisions will be made approx. 3 months after the deadline.  For large projects (over £30,000) the deadline for preliminary applications is 8 January 2010. Decisions will be made approx. 6 months after the deadline.
