"Lost in Translation - How to communicate most effectively with non-academics’

Carrying out ageing research, implementing policies for an ageing population and working with older people requires effective communication. And this can involve a diverse range of  audiences including funders, older people, community and voluntary organisations, policy makers and the media. This event involves a mixture of talks and workshops on how to avoid key messages getting lost in translation.

Issues to be covered include

  • Writing grant bids to maximise chances of securing funding
  • Communicating to influence policy
  • Publicising research through new and old media
  • Engaging with older people
  • Choosing the right methods for two-way engagement
  • Using the right language
  • Successful and unsuccessful approaches
