Why we've signed the Manifesto

"Public Engagement with Research is vital to the research culture here at the University of Exeter. We are constantly seeking new ways to engage with government, industry, and communities in order to build productive, sustainable partnerships and tackle some of the fundamental issues facing humankind. We are proud to sign the Manifesto and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to Public Engagement with Research."

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice Chancellor

A brief description of your institution's approach to public engagement

At the University of Exeter, we believe listening to, talking with and understanding communities improves the quality of our research, builds important skills for our academics and makes our research more accessible and relevant for society. We realise that engaging with the communities we serve locally, across the UK, the world and in the digital realm strengthens us and increases the benefits for society. As a recipient of an RCUK Catalyst award from 2012-2015, we have developed and sustained a culture of Public Engagement with Research. We support, recognise and reward high quality engagement and are committed to embedding public engagement with research.
