Biography
I am a research and knowledge transfer engaged lecturer based in the Birmingham School of Media, Birmingham City University. I teach new media and social media production and theory. My research is mainly focused on social media.
My current knowledge transfer work includes a number of KTP projects and a public engagement project championing Web 2.0 technologies within Birmingham.
What motivated you to engage with the public?
I believe it is important that our work is disseminated and made useful to the widest possible audience. I try to link all three aspects of my work – teaching, research, knowledge transfer – as I believe this improves the quality of each.
Describe the public engagement work you have done
Knowledge transfer is my key tool for public engagement and I have been fortunate to be involved in a number of KT projects during my HE career.
In addition to my KT work I am well networked with my industry peers and engage in a number of projects with them. I also undertake public speaking and have written for a number of different outlets, as well as contributing to a number of blogs which are all designed to communicate academic work to a wider audience.
